Who are the current National Club Champions?
In 2007 Bondi Running and Triathlon (BRAT) Club backed up their win in the first ever Australian Triathlon Club Team’s Championships. BRAT Club are currently the only holders of the Scody ATCTC trophy which will bring out the best in clubs for this years event. BRAT Club entered 14 teams in 2007 and were the clear winners which earned them the right to be the marketing face of the 2007/08 Scody ATCTC’s. As we all know it is much harder to stay at the top once you have reached the summit, but beware as BRAT’s are on the prowl to repeat last years domination.
What is the Scody Australian Triathlon Club Teams Championship?
Any Triathlon Australia affiliated club can enter teams in the 2008/09 Scody ATCTC. Teams of 3 members will race in the quest to have their club crowned as the National Club Champions. The following Divisions can be entered:
- Over 45’s Division
- Mixed Division
- Open Division (Men and Women)
- Division 2 (Men and Women)
- Division 3 (Men and Women)
What does competing in a team mean?
Each team will consist of 3 club members who will race over the sprint distance in a time trial fashion.
The three members must keep together and to be eligible for the all important points, two members of the team must cross the finish line within 2 seconds of one another. Drafting on the bike is legal amongst the three team members, in fact it is vital and tactics are paramount. Points are awarded in each division with every team earning points in each division.
Teams may start an event with only two team members but cannot drop a member during the event.
Mixed Division
Mixed Division is three man teams only. Teams may enter with only 1 female in their three member team. However that female must finish the event for the team to eligible for points.
What if our club does not have enough teams?
A club does not have to enter a team in every category to enter the ATCTC. The minimum teams for the pointscore is five teams. If your club does not have five teams entered you will simply receive a phantom team for the teams up to five in the Divisions you are not represented, starting with Open then O/45’s male, O/45’s Female and Mixed Division
E.g. If Club A has entered three teams (Two Open Teams and 1 O/45’s Male Teams) they receive two phantom teams. Their first phantom team is in Open Division and the second phantom team is entered into O/45’s male. These two teams instantly receive last placed points for their Division. To be eligible for the Club Championship clubs must have at least 3 teams entered.
